Marcella Phelps Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 31, 2024.
Marcella A. Phelps, age 88, of Shepherdsville, returned to her Heavenly Father on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. Mrs. Phelps was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on December 29, 1935 to the late Ralph Klein Sr. and Nora Nickell Klein. In addition to her parents and several siblings, her beloved husband, Charles M. Phelps Sr., preceded her in death.
Marcella and Charles were married over 65 years and raised three sons in Shepherdsville. After Marcella retired from Publisher's Printing, she and Charles travelled widely in their RV, visiting family and hosting summer gatherings at Percy Priest Lake. Marcella was a remarkable seamstress. She made clothes and quilts that will always remind loved ones of her creativity and generosity. As a grandma, she patiently taught interested grandkids how to sew and use puff-paint to decorate t-shirts with complex patterns. Her hearty pot roasts and fried chicken were tastiest when accompanied by her conversation – and she made a delicious "Mississippi Mud Pie" for dessert. Marcella found great joy in watching her family grow – first with a generation of grandchildren, and, more recently, with the addition of many great grandchildren.
Marcella lived a life that reflected deep integrity, fortitude, and honesty. She was blessed to build a community around these values; this community supported her as she lived her last years independently in her home. We are especially grateful for the kindness of her neighbor Ginny Simpson over the past several years. Marcella was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Shepherdsville and a member of Canton Baptist Church when she and Charles lived in western Kentucky.
Mom was organized and tidy in all matters. She joked with us that she was glad her house was clean when she called the ambulance the day before she died. We wish she was with us to celebrate Easter and enjoy the sunshine from her patio as summer arrives. She leaves to cherish her memory: sons Charles Phelps Jr. (Tina), Keith Phelps (Jackie) and Richard Phelps (Sue); grandchildren Angela (Justin), Josh, Ashley (Nick), Zachary (Jessica), Natalie (Colin), Johanna (Andrew), and Ben (Kate); great-grand children Jack, Kate, Ryan, Seeley, Alma, Eirene, Mae, Beau, and Ruth Ann; brother Glenn Klein (Anna) and a host of other dear family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 4, 2024 in the chapel of
Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.)
with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Family and friends may pay their
respects on Wednesday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 9:00 am until
the time of her service at 10:00 am at the funeral home.

I am Marcella´s neighbor. I relish the memories of Charles and her sitting in the garage side by side during the warmer months. Marcella was one of the kindest people I´d ever met with a sweet genuine smile and a loving heart. Heaven is gaining a beautiful woman
