Marcella M. (Wiebe) Sauck was born June 19, 1923, in
Fairmont, MN, the daughter of George and Mary (Broker) Wiebe. Marcella grew up in Fairmont and attended school in Fairmont graduating from Fairmont High School at the top of her class in 1942.
On September 27, 1943, Marcella was united in marriage to Elmer Sauck at the St. John's United Church of Christ parsonage. Together the couple lived on a farm north of Fairmont and in 1954, moved to a farm near
Truman, MN, where she had continued to reside.
Marcella was a life-long member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She was confirmed in 1937 by Rev. Louis Suedmeyer. Marcella was a church organist, taught Sunday School, helped with funerals and enjoyed the quilting club. She always worked hard, helping Elmer milk cows every day and having a big garden. Marcella loved her flowers and house plants, especially cactus. She and Elmer enjoyed many bus trips all over the United States and collected postcards from each one.
Marcella was an excellent cook and made the best homemade bread and lemon meringue pie ever. She also was known for the German potato salad she made for the church OktoberFest every year. Marcella was a talented pianist and could play Boogie Woogie with the best of them. She was an artist, painting beautiful oil landscapes and pencil drawings. She loved her family dearly and was always interested in the happenings in their lives. She did her best to remember all the birthdays with a card or a phone call.
Marcella was an extremely strong person who was able to survive a traumatic home invasion in 2008, where she lost her eye and she and Elmer were badly beaten. She was determined that this was not going to influence how she lived the rest of her life. She was never afraid to be in the house even after the invasion. Marcella lived in her own home on the farm with the help of Mark and Kay until 4 days before she passed. Blessed be her memory.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mary Ann (Glenn) Hruska of Madelia, MN, and Jeanne (Lonny) Schwieger of
Fairmont, MN; sons, John Sauck (Carol Kizer, significant other) of Kingman, AZ, Mark (Kay) Sauck of
Truman, MN, and Brian (Linda) Sauck of
Fairmont, MN; grandchildren, Shannon Hruska, Chris (Jessee) Hruska, Darren (Michelle) Schwieger, Dean (April) Schwieger, Derek (Lynn) Schwieger, Jeff (Sharon) Sauck, Amanda (Justin) Schnoor, Chad Krueger, Katie (Jordan) Honnette; Tyler (Jess) Sauck, Mike (Bree) Sauck, Matt (Ashley) Sauck, and Rachael (Chandler) Greier; 24 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren with one on the way; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Wiebe; husband, Elmer Sauck; granddaughter, Denise Schwieger and infant; brother, Rudy (Ruth) Broker; sister, Phyllis (Quentin) Peters; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Esther and Norman Spee; and other relatives.
The family requests memorials be made in Marcella's name to St. John's United Church of Christ or the donor's choice.
