Marcelle Spiers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Locust Grove Funeral Home - Locust Grove on Feb. 24, 2026.
Marcelle Marion Spiers, age 97, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, with the family at her side in Locust Grove. She was born January 16, 1929, in Snowball, AR to Ruby Grayson Mitchell and Mildred Gertrude (Honeycutt) Mitchell–Jewett.

Marcelle attended school in Snowball from first through eighth grade and later attended Pryor High School in Pryor. In 1980, she proudly earned her CNA certification from the Bill Willis Skill Center, reflecting her lifelong heart for caring for others.

On April 6, 1946, she married Alva Bohannon. Shortly after, she moved to Los Angeles for approximately one year before returning to Arkansas, settling in Marshall, KS for eight years. She later relocated to Riverside, MO where she married Paul J. Spiers on February 16, 1956, in Wyandotte. Together they made their home in Tulsa beginning in 1957, before moving to Locust Grove in the summer of 1973. Marcelle also lived in Pryor for three years before moving to Salina. Paul preceded her in death on November 18, 1984.

Marcelle was a homemaker and was an excellent cook especially her chicken cornbread dressing and mayonnaise chocolate cake. She had a special love for animals, particularly dogs and cats, and raised Pomeranians-at one time caring for 18 at once because she simply could not part with them. From 1982 to 1987, she lovingly and faithfully cared for her mother, exemplifying her selfless and devoted spirit.

She was a member of the VFW in Tulsa and enjoyed singing karaoke, especially at Lakeland's Harbor Lights and Phillips Lounge. Meemaw and Kansas city Kitty mostly sang Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette songs. Her talent earned her a first-place trophy in the women's division. Over the years, Marcelle also sang many gospel songs alongside her mother, sister Ruby, and brother J.C., while their mother accompanied them on guitar-precious memories her family will always cherish. She had a free spirt, loved to go dancing and was the life of the party.

Marcelle was a loving and caring mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She loved unconditionally and was the steady foundation her family relied upon. No matter where she lived, her home was always open to others. She also lovingly raised her youngest brother from age 12 until he married at 18, further reflecting her nurturing heart and unwavering dedication to family. Marcelle will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.
