Marcelo Luis Aguilar of Odenton, MD, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 29, 2024, in Laurel, MD. He was 44. Marcelo was born on June 27, 1979, in Cheverly, MD and was the son of Wilfredo Aguilar and Haydee (nee Mercedes) Aguilar.
"A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." ~Maya Angelou
Marcelo had a remarkable ability to connect with people, to forge deep and meaningful relationships that stood the test of time. Marcelo was a connector, people who link us up in the world. He had a special gift for maintaining long-lasting friendships and bringing friends and family together. An example of this is the family Zoom calls he started and hosted during COVID. He wanted to make sure we stayed connected and used it to check on the well-being of many of our cousins, aunts, and uncles. Marcelo's friendships were built on a foundation of trust, respect, and mutual admiration, a testament to his genuine and caring nature. As a brother, he was our pillar of strength, always there to lend a listening ear or offer words of wisdom. His laughter was infectious, brightening up the room and bringing joy to those around him. He had a way of making people feel seen and heard, a gift that endeared him to many. His love was boundless, encompassing not only his family but extending to friends, co-workers, and even strangers.
Throughout Marcelo's life, he wore many hats - a loving son, a devoted father, a dedicated brother, a reliable cousin, a loyal and trustworthy friend, and a doting uncle. In each role, he excelled, pouring his heart and soul into nurturing the relationships that meant so much to him.
Marcelo embraced life and all it offered – his passion for food, he was definitely a food connoisseur who enjoyed every meal and along with the company of family and friends. He turned into a motorcycle buff – he was always looking to work on his bikes and add new features. He was a Grill Master – he loved grilling food and all it represented to bringing family and friends together. We had this thing as brothers – we always set aside a choice piece of whatever we were grilling as a "taste test" just for us. Marcelo was a music devotee – he loved and enjoyed music. He told us stories of how he would start Zoom calls at AIPAC early and play music. It turned into a thing to join his calls early to listen to the mix of music he played. He recently converted a room in his house to a music room where he could enjoy listening to vinyl records of all his favorite artists. Our brother was a traveling enthusiast – one of his most memorable trips was a work trip to Israel. He always looked forward to travelling to Los Angeles to connect and visit our vast west coast family.
Along with his parents, Marcelo is survived by his loving son, Miguel Aguilar of Severn, MD; devoted brothers (Victor and Mike), sisters-in-law Karen and Alexis, nephews Victor, Emilio, and Daniel; nieces Taylor and Lauren. As well as adoring and close-knit aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church,1283 Odenton Road, Odenton, MD 21113. From 10:00 am to 11:00 am will be a time for friends and family to greet and gather. In lieu of flowers, A GoFundme link has been created for his son, Miguel. https://www.gofundme.com/f/marcelo-and-family
For My Brother
You left without
Warning.
Gone so fast.
Now all we have
Are memories
Of our past.
You are loved by so many.
You might not
Have known,
But in our hearts
Is where
You have grown.
The memories
I have throughout
The years
Will last
forever with
Laughter and tears.
We shared so much
Since we were young.
My wish now will be
To have you back healthy
And alive.
I will miss you
Oh so much.
So will all
The lives that
You have
Touched.
I can't say goodbye.
I can't accept
Your death.
You will live in my heart
Forever
Until my last breath.

My favorite memory will always and forever be us leaving 251 for lunch, grabbing a couple of scooters and riding to china town for pizza and wings. I will miss doing that with him for the rest of my days. He was the best big brother any of us could have ask for. Love you brother.

They say you can choose your friends but not your family but by everyones reaction to your passing you were definitely extended family, a great friend and loving father we will continue to say your name and share memories of you. You will be missed, so in your memory we should all have a good meal and a nice drink. One time for my Breakfast Club brother Marcelo Luis Aguilar aka Cabezon

Such a "bolt-out-of-the-blue" tragedy. I work/have worked at the same organization as Marcelo for the past 20 years. A great and very-popular guy. Deepest sympathies and condolences to the Aguilar family at this very-terrible time.

Cab you will be missed. When the pandemic was happening you took time to come out for our wedding and even manned the grill at our home for the meal the next day. You will be missed in so many ways by family and friends.

Sending my dearest condolences to the family. I met Marcelo through the Breakfast Club. He had a deep love for music, motorcycles, and most importantly his son. These are the things that always came through to me consistently over the years. I also will remember his friendly, welcoming personality and smile. Many blessings to his legacy

Marcelo was one of the most genuine and supportive friends a person could have - and I got to experience him in this way despite never having met in person. We met years back in a music community, and would chat here and there about music and art. In fact, Marcelo heavily supported my work as an artist by purchasing some of it and by referring friends and others to me for art. He was very caring and down to earth, you couldn't help but to really like him. I could tell he was a loving father and very proud of his son. We shared many laughs and good times virtually, and I wish I had had the opportunity to meet him in person in this life. I know Marcelo is in God's memory, my deepest sympathies to his family, friends and loved ones.

I met Marcelo at a largo high soccer game. He was 16 and my first boyfriend. I´m so happy we got to reconnect and hang out for a few years. He helped me get my dog and he named her Blanca. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I will miss his easy going and funny personality. He always made me smile.

I have only known Marcelo for a short time; I met him at the beginning of 2023 in the community he lived in that I manage. He always cared so much for the people there and worked to bring any improvements he could. This is a devastating loss to everyone who knows him - he had such a great personality. We will say prayers for him and his family.

I was devastated of the news of his passing. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Marcello. I met him about 21 years ago at work, and just saw and spoke with him less than three months ago at a work event. I have nothing but good things to say about him. Alway a standup nice guy. Prayers up to the family. Keep your heads to the sky.

Marcelo Aguilar I´m devastated learning we lost you brother. I have only fond memories to share about you. We laughed so much. You were so supportive and I´m so grateful you were my friend. I thank you for gathering the crew on zoom during Covid checking in on us. Traveling with us to Chicago in the middle of a pandemic. And the massive amounts of Sailor Jerry´s rum we´ve all drank. May you rest in the gracious loving arms of the lord in eternal peace. I will pray for all who love and miss your presence. Love you Brother

I met Marcelo (Cabezon) via DJ Dummy´s The Breakfast Club, which was an online radio show via Ustream. I was introduced to this by Mr. Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr - aka Common. I was compelled to get all of the BClub members together who lived in the Washington DC Metro area. Most of us came together at an album release party for Maimouna Youssef. We had a great time. I call us all music connoisseurs. We would try to meet up anytime our favorite DJ was in town.

Marcelo had a spirit about him to live your best life. He loved his family; a good meal; and a nice adult beverage. His love of real music and his infectious enthusiasm will be missed. May God look upon the family, friends, coworkers, and all who knew Marcelo Aguilar with kindness and give them peace.
