Marcile Ann Ellingson, 92, passed away on November 23rd, 2025.
Marcile was born September 29, 1933, in Veblen, SD, to Kenneth and Dorothy Loessin. She was raised on a farm near Claire City, SD. She attended elementary school at Minnesota #3, and went to High School in Sisseton, SD. Marcile went on to college in Aberdeen, SD, where she received her teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College.
She began teaching in the same one-room school (Minnesota #3) where she had attended as a child. She taught 5 children, one of them being her sister Cheryl, as they were 12 years apart in age. She also taught in Webster, SD, Wheaton, MN, and Breckenridge, MN.
Marcile was rooming with a fellow teacher by the name of Marie Ellingson. Marie brought Marcile home to the family farm one day and happened to meet Marie’s brother Leonard. The two began dating, and they married in June of 1964. They settled on a farm just a few miles away from Leonard’s family farm outside of Doran, MN. She did some substitute teaching in Breckenridge, MN, but soon turned to being a full-time housewife when they had their first child, Joel. Six years later, they had their second son, Jeremy.
Marcile absolutely loved being on the farm and raising her family. Tending to the vegetable and flower gardens always brought her joy. Crafting was also very near and dear to her heart. She could often be found making some new craft, whether it was table decorations, a wall ornament, or a fun thing to do for Ladies Aid or Homemakers groups. Marcile quilted many blankets, and she was a talented seamstress.
She was also very active in the Doran Church. Teaching Sunday School and Bible School, and helping with whatever else was needed. After Leonard passed in 1991, she kept herself busy with some part-time jobs. Working in a daycare, the Breckenridge Library, and the Wilkin County Museum.
Marcile was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her mother, Dorothy (Bartnick) Loessin; her father, Kenneth Loessin; and her granddaughter, Natasha Churchill.
She is survived by her sister, Cheryl (Robert) Shultz; sons, Joel Ellingson and Jeremy (Lynda) Ellingson; grandchildren, Caleb Ellingson, Reed Ellingson, Aleq Wek, Austen Wek, and Aurea Wek; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11 am at Doran Presbyterian Church, Doran, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A light lunch will be served immediately after. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.
Arrangements are entrusted to Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, MN.
