Marclus "Mark" Shannon Thornhill, 48, of Prosperity, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Lexington Medical Center after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Newberry on October 23, 1974, to Nancy Ann Cagle Thornhill and the late Robert Eugene Thornhill
After graduating from Mid Carolina High School in 1992, he was a successful entrepreneur who operated Prosperity Metal Recycling (PMR) in Newberry where he poured his heart and soul into running a thriving business. Mark's dedication to his business was evident to all who knew him.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mark had an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. He sponsored numerous sports activities and community events for children and youth in the local area. His generosity brought joy and opportunities to many young individuals who otherwise may not have had the chance to participate.
Mark was beloved by his family and friends, who admired his strength and resilience throughout his battle with cancer. He is survived in addition to his mother, Nancy Thornhill of Prosperity by his wife, LaShawnda Oxner Thornhill; his son, Gavin Thornhill of Prosperity; step-son, Zackery Kibler of Greenville; step-daughter, Ambria Kibler of Prosperity; sisters, Pam (Bachman) Pugh and Brandy (Daniel) Watson both of Prosperity; brother, Michael (Heather) Thornhill of Rock Hill; mother-in-law, Sandra Oxner of Prosperity; sisters-in-law, Crissy (Jevaras) Atchison and Tonya McFall of Prosperity and Khadijah Oxner of Irmo; a brother-in-law, Justin Bookman of Newberry and host of other family and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Christopher Thornhill.
Although Mark is no longer with us physically, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all. He faced adversity with courage and grace, reminding us of the importance of perseverance even in the face of immense challenges
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Mt. Moriah AME Church in Prosperity by the Rev. Dr. Sherry Highbaugh. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm for a viewing.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-3000.
Active pallbearers will be Jevaras Atchinson, Justin Brooks, Eric Holley, Wayne Kinard, Eddie Madison, Andrew Pugh, Dodd Thomas and Eddie Wilson.
Flower bearers will be Rhonda Brooks, Deterrical Davenport, Tonetta Harmon, Shonda Holley, Nerissa Marshall, Elisha Shinn, Cassandra Singley and Tisha Thomas.
As we bid farewell to Mark, let us remember him not only for his achievements but also for the kindness he bestowed upon others. He was truly a remarkable individual who made a lasting impact on our community. May he rest in peace knowing the profound positive influence he had on this world.
