On Sunday, September 7, 2025, God called one of his angels home. Marcus Eugene "Mark" Forney was born on July 3, 1975, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the late Marshall Hubert Forney and Wilma Jean Forney. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and his faith remained a guiding light throughout his life.
Mark was a devoted brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Known for his open heart and generosity, he welcomed anyone in need with kindness and compassion. Friends and neighbors knew that Mark's door was always open-an example of his selfless spirit and unwavering love for others.
As a child of a military family, Mark had the opportunity to travel around the world before settling in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1989 when his father retired from the U.S. Army. He graduated from Terry Sanford High School in 1994, where he played varsity football as an outstanding linebacker. His passion for football remained lifelong, and he was a proud and loyal fan of the Washington Commanders (formerly the Redskins).
Mark was also proud of his career and his time working at Fort Bragg, where he served with dedication and commitment. His work there reflected not only his strong work ethic but also his continued connection to the military community in which he was raised.
Beyond sports and work, Mark had a deep love for following politics and current events. He enjoyed sharing his perspectives on politicians, policies, and legislation, often sparking thoughtful conversations with family and friends. His sharp insights and willingness to voice his opinions reflected his passion for staying informed and engaged with the world around him.
Mark's greatest joy was his family. He was a loving father to his two beautiful daughters and a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews, always treating his cousins as though they were siblings. His presence in their lives was marked by encouragement, laughter, and steadfast love. He also shared a special bond with his aunts and uncles, who helped shape his values and supported him throughout his life.
Cherishing his memory and carrying on his legacy are his daughters, Marquesia Gaddy of Raleigh, North Carolina and Trinity Forney of Killeen, Texas; his brother, Marshall T. Forney Sr. (Renee) of Manassas, VA; his sister, Melissa Daniels (Alan) of Fayetteville, NC; his great aunt, Barbara Ann Howell of Canton NC; his four aunts, Laureen Gibson of Waynesville, NC; Johnnie Howell of Lancaster, SC; Martha McQueen of Charlotte, NC; and Thelma Howell of Fayetteville, NC; his uncle, Earnest Howell of Lancaster, SC; his nephews, Marshall T. Forney Jr. and Ari Daniels; his nieces, Kierston Forney, Mahoganee Brown, and Melina Daniels; and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Mark's life was defined by faith, family, love, and community. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Crawford/Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is deeply honored to be caring for the Forney family.
