MARCUS PEDERSEN Marcus Lee Pedersen, 84, of Galva, KS and formerly McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, surrounded by his family at Brookdale, McPherson. Following 30 years working as a chemical engineer at National Cooperative Refinery Association, Marc retired in 1998. He was born September 19, 1940, in Rockham, SD, the son of James J. and Lillie C. (Kissner) Pedersen. Marc graduated from Ipswich (South Dakota) High School and received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City. On November 23, 1963, Marc was united in marriage to Judith P. Welker in Skedee, OK. This union was blessed with three children, Scott, Jill, and Kyle. He was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in McPherson, and he served on the board and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. A dedicated youth baseball coach and passionate Kansas City Royals fan, he shared his love of the game with his family and community. Together with his wife, Judy, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium. They also enjoyed many afternoons playing Bridge with close friends. He loved animals, particularly dogs. Though a man of few words, his quiet strength and deep love for his family spoke volumes. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Judy; three children, Scott (Christy) Pedersen of Leawood, KS, Jill (Doug) Shaw of Selden, KS, and Kyle Pedersen of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Abby (Dylan) Stos, Megan (Jake) Stramel, Logan Shaw, and Clay Shaw; five great-grandchildren, Harper & Hattie Stos and Collins, Cora, & Cecilia Stramel; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dorothy Ernst, Rosene Royce, Emily Sando, Linda Epperly, and Jane Tumbleson. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until service time on Sunday at the church. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, May 12, at McPherson Cemetery.
