Marcus Rogers

Marcus Rogers 38, passed away in the early morning of Thursday, December 30th at Rush Copley Hospital. Marcus was born January 26, 1983. He is the foster son of Judy Bark of Sandwich. When Marcus went to live with Judy at the age of 10 months, he was a very frightened and frustrated infant. But with lots of hugs and love he began to trust and became a very loving, affectionate, and happy little boy. He lived with Judy and his other foster siblings until he went to live at the Open Door Rehabilitation Center in 2013. Marcus is survived by Judy Bark (foster mother), Ginger Bark Law (foster sister), a host of Open Door friends, and a very special foster brother, Billy Russie, with whom he lived with for the last 37 years.
Marcus is fondly remembered for his love of music, his infectious smile, and his mischievous yet loving nature. His music taste was very eclectic, and he could frequently be found "rocking out" to the beats of Queen, AC/DC, Beyonce', and Lady Gaga. Marcus would reach for your hand and want to dance with you. The two of you spinning and twirling, smiling and giggling till the grand finale when Marcus pulled you in and finished with a hug. Marcus was also well known for his love of being outdoors in the sun and absolutely loved it when wheelchair accessible automatic doors were installed at the Open Door Day Program where he attended. He would take every opportunity to play one of his favorite games, "catch me if you can" where he would press the automatic door button and then wheel himself outside; always with staff right behind chasing him. It is stories like these that we will remember and in doing so make us smile and help us heal.
An intimate celebration of life will take place at Marcus' home on his birthday, January 26th from Noon – 2pm. The celebration will be streamed for extended family and friends who wish to attend.
