Marda A. Gunning

Marda A. Gunning, 57, of Bluffton, SC passed away December 15, 2025. She was born October 10, 1968 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to Benjamin N. and Georgia (Green) Gunning. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1986 and Central Michigan University in 1991 earning a B.S. degree in Business Administration (Marketing). Marda married the love of her life Robert Uva on May 2, 2008. Marda was part owner of Michael & Co. Antiques/Consignments on Hilton Head Island for over 30 years. As a teenager, Marda fell in love with the South Carolina Low Country on a family vacation. She decided that was where she wanted to live someday. After she graduated from college, she moved to Hilton Head and used her business degree to start Michael & Co. with her business partner. Being a Michigan girl, she loved her winter trips home to enjoy the snow. When the visit was over, she was anxious to return to Bluffton. She loved where she lived. Marda enjoyed interior design, boating, gardening and she loved animals. She was vivacious, fun loving and adventurous. Marda is survived by her husband, Robert Uva of Bluffton; sister Marlee (Thomas) Sukany of Clyde, Michigan; brother Benjamin G. (Kathy) Gunning and niece Emily Gunning of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; step-son Nick (Amanda) Uva of Simsbury, Connecticut; grandchildren Lydia and Cameron; one aunt and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions in Marda's memory to Hilton Head Humane Association.
