Mardell "Marde" Zimmermann (née Kreil), age 83, of
Hartford, WI, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, and is now rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Marde was born on July 24, 1941, in Milwaukee, WI to Charles and Clara Kreil. She enjoyed going to dances at the local YMCA and Eagles Ballroom while working at Allis-Chalmers as an Executive Secretary. On June 26, 1965, she married the love of her life, Jack Zimmermann. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with devotion, laughter, and countless adventures.
Their journey began with an exciting move to Canada, where the early days of their marriage unfolded against a breathtaking backdrop of nature and new beginnings. Later settling in the small town of Wisconsin Rapids, WI the perfect place to start her family where they joyfully welcomed "the twins". During her time there, Marde enjoyed being involved in the community, including the Mother of Twins Club. She was well known for her compassionate heart-frequently bringing home stray animals-and for her fondness for trying her luck at the local casinos. Ever the lifelong learner, Marde returned to school as a non-traditional student and proudly earned her degree in Communications from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Living in Wisconsin gave her the perfect opportunity to share her love of day trips and camping with her family-some of her favorite destinations included the Gays Mills Apple Orchards, the Waupaca Covered Bridge, Holy Hill and the scenic beauty of Door County.
Eventually, Marde and Jack made their home in
Hartford, WI, to be closer to family. There, she continued her community involvement as a member of the Women's Club and the Garden Club. One of her greatest joys was hosting sleepovers with her grandchildren, spending time cooking together and playing games that filled the house with laughter.
Above all, Marde was a devoted and loving mother to Laura (Tom) Menzer and Julie (Matt) Foti, and a proud grandmother to Lucas and Owen Menzer, and Ian and Isabella "Izzy" Foti. She was known for the warmth and kindness she showed to everyone around her. Whether gathering family around the dinner table or preparing meals and baked goods to share, Marde's presence brought comfort, love, and joy. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Center and the compassionate staff at Majestic Heights Assisted Living and Horizon Hospice for their exceptional kindness and support. Their dedication brought comfort and dignity to Marde's final weeks, and their presence will always be remembered with deep appreciation.
Visitation will be held Wednesday July 9th, 2025 at The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home in Hartford (226 South Main Street) from 4-5:30 PM. Video tribute will follow.
