Mardell Ione Zuercher, age 92, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023. Her parents were Arthur and Mabel Koelsch. She was born on a farm in Douglas, Minnesota where her father had been born. After several moves, the family moved to a farm near Pine Island, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Pine Island High School, where she also met Harold Zuercher. They married on February 20, 1949. They moved to Madison, Wisconsin. Mardell retired as Executive Secretary at Ohmeda.

They have five children: Barry (Barbara) Zuercher of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Linda (Stephen) Menendez of Chuckey, TN; Jan Arthur (Christine) Zuercher of Spanish Fort, Alabama; Nathan Zuercher of Cudahy, WI, and Marcia (Thomas) Connery of New Franken, WI. They were blessed with ten grandchildren.

Mardell loved animals, especially horses. Harold and Mardell enjoyed many cruises, elder hostels and travels around various locations in the U.S., Europe, and China. They particularly loved Switzerland as Harold’s relatives lived there.

Mardell was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Harold, parents, Arthur and Mabel, brothers, Luverne, Milton and Thayne Koelsch and sister Bonabell Knutson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI. A reception will follow.
