Mardi Lynn Dayton, 47, passed away suddenly on August 25, 2025, in her hometown of Salisbury, Maryland. Raised in Bivalve and Hebron, Mardi spent most of her life surrounded by the community she knew best.

While attending Mardela Middle and High-school, Mardi proudly participated in the marching band as an alto saxophonist. As an adult, she was a prominent advocate for the disenfranchised and unhoused, working with figures in local government frequently.

Mardi is survived by her parents, Marcia Lynn and David Messick Dayton Jr.; her children, Neecole Alisia Gregory and Damien (DJ) Warner Lee Howard Jr.; brother, David Messick Dayton III, and his wife, Cassendra; nephew and niece, Luke and Kate; grandson, Kashton; two aunts and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Jane and Billy Dayton, and Colleen and John Hearn, along with her uncles, Jeffrey and Jack Hearn, and John Dayton Sr.

Mardi faced many challenges throughout her life, but those who knew her best remember not the struggles, but her resilience, laughter, and ability to brighten a room. She had a sharp sense of humor, a big heart, and a love for her family that never wavered. Whether spending time with loved ones or joking with friends, Mardi had a gift for turning ordinary moments into fun and memorable ones. She had a great love for dancing, and bringing people together.

Her greatest pride was her family, especially her children, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She will be remembered for her spirit and the joy she brought to those lucky enough to know her. If Mardi taught us anything, it's that life is meant to be laughed through and lived out loud.

Mardi will be missed.

A celebration of Mardi's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice.
