Maren Reid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2009.
Maren Reid, 65, loving friend and mother, died of cancer on February 21, 2009 at her home. After a long career with the U.S. Department of Interior in Washington, DC, Maren moved back to Idaho in 2001 and made a wonderful home in Coeur d'Alene. A beautiful woman of strong character and intelligence, Maren was known for her opinionated nature, love of books and gardening, her sense of style, and a great appetite for all that was comforting and delicious. She was the type of mother who wanted to teach her children Latin, led their 4-H Entomology Project, and still believed that children should be seen and not heard. Her interests ranged from mushrooms to textiles, crystals to gypsies, politics to the environment. Maren's best years were the ones spent at her home in Coeur d'Alene. Maren enjoyed her time by taking long walks on Tubbs Hill and around favorite neighborhoods, reading and discussing books with her book group, learning of other cultures and countries, and volunteering with the Idaho State Democratic Party, the East Mullan Historic District Neighborhood Association, and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library. Most of all, Maren was happiest when she was with her dear friends; her son, Bridger Reid; her daughter, Delia Reid; and her grandchildren, Sophie and Marco Yarker. Maren was very special to so many people and she will be missed. One friend captured it perfectly, "Maren was a wonderful friend to me and I already miss her dearly. One has many kinds of friends throughout their life. None in my life has been as special as Maren. She valued people and friends. Maren would remind me of my value and I, having become too caught up in my self, would stop and know to enjoy the things around me." It is hard to believe that she is gone but Maren was ready to start a new journey. We are forever changed. Contributions in Maren Reid's memory may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 North Government Way, Hayden, Idaho 83835 or the Kootenai Humane Society, 11600 North Ramsey Road, Hayden, Idaho 83835. A private service will be held at a later date.
