Margaret Ann Guzman

1928 - 2024

Margaret Ann Moore Guzman, of Cabot, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at the age of 96, in Boulder, Colo.
Margaret, "Peggy," was born June 12, 1928, to Thomas and Caroline Moore (Lauter) in Cabot. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1946, then went on to Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing to work in surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics and infectious disease: polio and tuberculosis. After graduation in 1949, she started her career at Abbington Memorial Hospital near Philadelphia, then working in public health, before deciding to transition into humanitarian work with C.A.R.E in Central America.
In 1965, Margaret met Louis E. Guzman in Panama, where they married in 1967. They had on child, Jania Maria Guzman in 1969, while living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They returned to the United States in 1971, settling in Northern Virginia, where, after taking some time off to raise her daughter, Margaret resumed her career in nursing, choosing to focus in geriatrics and senior care.
In 1996, Margaret retired from nursing before she and Louis moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., and Colorado Springs, Colo., to be closer to their daughter and her family. In retirement, Margaret spent much of her time volunteering at the local hospital, clinic, helping at her church, gardening, sewing, and spending time with friends and family.
In her final years, she lived with her daughter and family in Colorado Springs and then in Boulder.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Caroline Moore; her sisters, Lucille Turner, Frances Harbison, Mercedes Kropf, Carolyn DiMaria and Linda Walter; her brothers, Thomas Lynn Moore and Paul Moore; and her husband of 45 years, Louis E. Guzman, in 2012.
She is survived by her brother, James Moore; daughter, Jania (Guzman) Menzies; son-in-law, Patrick Menzies; and grandsons, Tyler Menzies and Alec Menzies.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, loved by all. She will be greatly missed. Her ashes will be buried with her aunt and namesake, Margaret Lauter (Aunt Peg), at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery in Cabot.
