Margaret Barnes Obituary

Margaret Ann Barnes ( nee Paris), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great friend passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona surrounded by the love of her family on September 25, 2025. She was 88 years young. "Maggie/Marge" as she was known to most, was born March 5, 1937 at home in Philadelphia, PA to Henrietta and Harry Paris. She was the 10th of 11 children and is predeceased by all of her much loved siblings. At fifteen years old, she met the love of her life while watching him play high school basketball. William (Bill) G. Barnes, Jr. Marge and Bill eloped to New Hampshire at 20 years old, and had a special love that lasted through their entire lives and beyond. Together, they raised four children: Debbie, Bill, Michael and Susan. The family lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey twice, Michigan twice, Georgia, and Tennessee before making a permanent home in Arizona in 1982. Scottsdale and Maui became Maggie's true homes as early as the mid 80's. She always loved the ocean and became a strong swimmer in a short time. She and Bill loved exploring and spending their days enjoying all the natural beauty of paradise. They cultivated their own sense of Aloha and loved to share this with others, especially the kids and grandkids. After her beloved Bill's passing in 2001, Maggie travelled to the far ends of the globe with her family and friends. She truly made herself available to the wonders of life, and did it with enthusiasm. She was always up for fun and adventure and set a great example to all through her attitude, love, and acceptance. Maggie delighted in her 10 grandchildren: Bill and Teresa's kids: William IV (and Arie), Nicholas, Matthew ( and Nemiko) and Sydney Barnes; Michael and Wendy's kids: Jennifer and Christopher Barnes, Susan and Richard's girls: Hannah and Samantha Getzen; and Debbie and Patrick's kids: Anthony ( and Katrina) and Brian Doran. Her great grandchildren Julian, Phoenix, Atlas, Tre, Liam, Anataje, Farren and Coraline brought her so much joy. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, and her God daughter, Catherine. Maggie loved living. She was sweet and sassy. She loved her friends, and especially her family, fiercely. She practiced the fellowship of her 12 step community, and looked out for the newcomers and offered them hope. Her wish for others is to enjoy the gift of their life everyday. There will be a celebratory mass on 10/17/25 at the Franciscan Renewal Center at 10:30am and a Celebration of Life gathering on October 18, 2025 at the family home. Our family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite charity, or "Women Helping Women" of Wailuku, Hawaii.
