Our Mom, Margaret Bocon Bartosch, passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of the late Alois and Berta, and sister of Karl Heinz, who died at the age of 9. Surviving the atrocities of World War II, Mom decided to leave her birthplace of Landshut Germany, bravely arriving to the United States, by ship, in 1953. Her paternal uncle, Karl, sponsored her and she joined him where he resided in Syracuse. Although she was greatly homesick, she worked diligently to establish herself in her new city. Learning English was a passion for her, with the dictionary often by her side. She worked as a nanny, as a housekeeper for Holy Family parish, and ultimately, and very proudly, as a key punch operator for Western Electric. Our dad, Leonard (Len) Bartosch, entered her life in 1955, and they married in September 1956, eventually settling on the South Side.
Mom was a dedicated wife and homemaker, while Dad worked long hours at their North Side restaurant, Carl's. When dad passed away at the young age of 60, mom continued with her tough German strength to forge ahead and make sure we went forward, though the pain of losing Dad, never left her. She has now been reunited with him.
Everyone who met mom appreciated her kindness and thoughtfulness, yet she was always especially grateful for those who treated her with kindness. She never put herself first and worked, at times, tirelessly, to make sure things were perfect, to her high standards. Sometimes, at the expense of her own welfare, she sacrificed to be there for anyone who needed her. Family and religion were the cornerstones of her life. Mom's favorite past times included summers at family camp, skiing, bowling, dancing, visiting Germany, playing dominos, and card games. She was forever adventurous, creative, and curious.
Left to mourn her passing, is her devoted youngest son Rich, and his wife Bernadette, of Connecticut, who lovingly supported her during the best and worst times in her life, her oldest son, Jim, who helped her these past few years after Tom's passing, and his girlfriend, Precious, and Jim's two children, Tom, and Alex, as well as, cousins in Germany, and extended family throughout the United States. She also leaves behind the kind parishioners at Saint Anthony's Church, who she always looked forward to seeing, as well as her neighbors, especially Lester and Rachel, that kindly and compassionately watched over Miss Margaret, and the patient and helpful Suzanne and the other smiling faces at Cutting Edge Salon. She loved all of them. She was predeceased in 2022, by her second husband, Tom Bocon, who she was married to for 32 years. Mom adored flowers and sunshine, so remember her this Spring, enjoy the flowers popping up and think of her.
