Funeral service for Mrs. Margaret Ann Copeland, 85, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00AM Friday, February 16, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home 2308 Sterlington Rd. Monroe with Dr. Bill Dye officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Copeland was born on June 30, 1938, in Oxford, MS, and passed away on February 11, 2024, in Monroe. In college she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Mrs. Copeland was a teacher and later became the Principal of Lida Benton Elementary School in Monroe. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Iota and Forsythe Garden Club, along with volunteering at North Monroe Hospital and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office. Mrs. Copland was preceded in death by her parents, A. J. and Margaret Ann May Varnado; and husband, Billy E. Copeland.
Survivors include her son, Brian Alan Copeland; daughter, Carole Copeland Wilson and husband Billy; grandchildren, Ashley Petrus and Sarah Petrus Hemmestad and husband Austin; brother, James Allison Varnado and wife Margaret; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Billy Wilson, Austin Hemmestad, Jake Whatley, Mark Copeland, Darrell Price, and James Varnado. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Varnado.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
