Margaret Louise "Peggy" Cummins Hackett, age 80, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Peggy was born on July 15, 1945, in Norristown, PA, daughter of the late Marguerite (Clemson) and James William Cummins. Peggy graduated from Norristown High School, class of 1963, and attended Marion College for Women in Marion, VA, where she was a member of the field hockey and tennis teams, and was also a member of the touring choir that had performed across the state of VA in multiple competitions. Peggy graduated from Peirce College where she was the President of her Sorority, President of the Cultural Club, an Editor for the Yearbook, and awarded the Outstanding Woman of the Year Award. Upon graduation, Peggy began working for the Airco Corporation in King of Prussia before moving on to the MAI Computer Corp in Bryn Mawr, where she started as a Lease Processor and worked her way up to the District Legal Office.
In October of 1969, Peggy married the love of her life, William L. Hackett Sr., and moved to
Wilmington, DE. Peggy began working in the New Castle County Department of Parks and Recreation. In 1972 her husband was named the Head PGA Pro at the Delcastle Golf Club and Peggy helped her husband with the daily operations and was bookkeeper at the pro shop of Delcastle, all while maintaining her role with New Castle County.
In January of 1982, Peggy became the owner and president of Delcastle Inn Incorporated, where she worked tirelessly to make the business a success and enhance the daily operations of the golf club. In 1985, with her husband, they formed the Delaware Golf Club Management Corporation. Peggy served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the newly formed corporation along with the duties she also held at Delcastle Inn Incorporated. The Corporation was very proud to build and design the Delcastle Driving Range and Miniature Golf Course in 1987. Together, Peggy and Bill worked to build a business they loved and enjoyed, always striving to make Delcastle Golf Club one of the finest public golf facilities in Delaware.
Although Peggy had many business accomplishments, she always wanted to be remembered as a loving and giving person who said her greatest gifts and accomplishments were her children and grandchildren. Always happy and smiling, Peggy loved to play golf, garden, and enjoyed her winters in Florida. Her greatest enjoyment was when her family was all together and shared all the memories with laughter and love.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband, William Lane Hackett Sr.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Megan Louise Harris and her husband, Mark, and Mindy Lane Hackett; son, William Lane Hackett Jr., and his wife, Regan; grandchildren, Hunter Stephen Harris; Hogan William Harris; and Lily Lane Rencoret; sisters, Joan Caroline Lenhardt and Judith Ann Bogar; and numerous nieces, nephews, close family friends, and grand puppies whom she all loved.
