George Sabatino Obituary

George Joseph Sabatino, formerly of Audubon, PA, passed away on September 25, 2025, in York, PA at the age of 93. George was born to Joseph and Carmela Caracappa Sabatino on August 4, 1932, in Norristown, PA - one of four children. He grew up in Norristown, attending Holy Savior Catholic School and Norristown High School. George served stateside in the Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division in the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, known as the Red Devils. After leaving the Army, he briefly worked construction followed by many years as an electronics technician for Burroughs, Sperry, Unisys, Positran, and Veltek. He retired for the final time at the ripe age of 86. He married Ruth Hinnegan on June 14, 1965, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Norristown, and moved to Audubon. They raised three children: George, Barbara, and Catherine. George was former President of the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Norristown chapter, and was a parishioner at St. Teresa's Catholic Church for many years. George was an extraordinary father, grandfather and uncle. He made sacrifices to ensure his children could live a better life than he had, ensuring they graduated college. He will be remembered for his love of classic movies and TV, happy whistling, and experimental gardening. He was a tinkerer at heart, engaging in projects that included building a house addition, constructing multiple swimming pools for his children, modifying the family van for vacations across the U.S., and rewiring electronics. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Carmela Sabatino, wife Ruth Hinnegan Sabatino, sisters Josephine Culp and Mary Huston, and brother Salvatore Sabatino. He is survived by his son George (Melissa) Sabatino, and daughters Barbara (Dominick Fato) Sabatino and Catherine (Michael) Doutrich; grandsons Ryan (Taylor) Sabatino, Andrew (Megan) Sabatino, and Luke Sabatino; bonus grandchildren Joel (Britt) Doutrich and Kelsey (Brent) Smith; great granddaughter Josie Sabatino; and numerous nieces and nephews. They will all miss their Popatino terribly but are thankful for the time they were able to spend together over the years. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish Life Celebration Home on Germantown Pike in Norristown from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Audubon, PA at 10:00 am, Monday, October 6, 2025. Burial will immediately follow. George will be buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Norristown, PA alongside his wife of 31 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn House Assisted Living Facility and Misericordia Nursing Facility in York, PA for the excellent care provided to George. Donations may be made in George's memory to Misericordia Benevolence Fund (https://mn-rc.org/giving/memorial-donations/) or the Alzheimer's Association.
