Margaret Frances Dillon

Margaret Arehart Dillon, 89, passed away at Timberview Crossing Assisted Living in Timberville, Virginia on November 29, 2025.

Margaret was born in Timberville on December 10, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Katie Marie Spitzer Arehart and Walter Arehart. She was the seventh of fourteen children. Preceding her in death were siblings Catherine Keister, Evelyn Sampson, Anna Tribby, Walter "Bud" Arehart, Betty Biller, Edward Arehart, Frank Arehart, Nancy Dove, Beverly Arehart, and Thomas Arehart. She is survived by her sisters Linda Arehart, Peggy Sellars, and Debra Woolverton.

Margaret is also survived by her stepdaughter, Christina Monteleone, of Mobile, Alabama; daughter Sandra Dillon, of Edinburg, Virginia; and daughter Jennifer Van Prooyen and her husband, Paul, of Sayner, Wisconsin. Margaret had four grandchildren: Jennifer Howell, Suzy Brown, Dillon Nelson, and Margaret Nelson. Margaret had five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and another on the way.

On January 15, 1962, she married her beloved Jim L. Dillon. After he retired from twenty years of service in the US Marine Corps in 1969, the family moved to Elberta, Alabama. Taking care of Rachelle, Elisa, Nick, and Colleen added so much joy to Margaret's life. Margaret and Jim were active members of the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary. They were part of the group that started the Elberta German Sausage Festival. Margaret also actively worked to improve Elberta Town Park with the Elberta Beautification Committee. Margaret enjoyed her 18 years working at the Liz Claiborne Outlet store in Foley, Alabama.

A reception to gather together friends and family who loved Margaret will be held at her home in Legion Hills on Saturday, December 13, from 2 PM until 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the United Services Organization (USO).
