Joseph R. Dillon Jr.

Joseph R. Dillon, Jr., 85 of Plympton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Scituate on August 26, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Welch) Dillon Sr. Joseph married the love of his life, JoAnne, on August 21, 1965 and the two settled in Hingham and Plympton where they would raise their family and start JR Dillon Arabians. He had a lengthy career in horse training and hauling. Joseph also was a teacher for many years. He enjoyed traveling but most of all, Joseph loved spending time with his family.

Joseph was the loving husband of 56 years to the late JoAnne L. (Rosano) Dillon. Father of Kent Dillon of Plympton, Joseph Dillon III and his wife Michele of Hanson, and Shanna Dillon-Kimball and her husband Kevin of Florida. Grandfather of Erika, Randy, Brittany, Tyler, Krystyna (Dillon) Wylie and her husband David Wylie of Plympton, and Steven James Lewis of Whitman. Great Grandfather to Izabella, Gage, Presley, Blakely, Quinn, Mathew, Caleb, Brixton, and Gavin. Joseph is also survived by his brother James Dillon of Scituate.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 2 Maquan Street, Corner Route 14&58, Hanson, on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Apostles (formerly known as St. Joseph the Worker), 1 Maquan St, Rte 14, Hanson, on Thursday, December 4th, at 11 AM.
