Margaret Favazza Obituary

Published by Greely Funeral Home on Jun. 6, 2015.
Margaret R. (Ferraro) Favazza, 93, of Gloucester, wife of the late Capt. Serafino P. "Sofie" Favazza, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in Fort Pierce, FL. Margaret was born in Cambridge, MA on July 13, 1921, the daughter of the late Luigi and Rosaria (Iabelli) Ferraro. Margaret had an open door policy. Family, friends and strangers were always welcome into her home. A fantastic cook and baker, she had no problem entertaining, whether it was a meal for 2 or 30. Sunday dinners were special. Raviolis, gnocchis, Italian goodies, any recipe she could pull from her memory and create, but make sure you were there, 12 noon sharp! A very friendly and outgoing individual, she was always helping others. She would help one of her good friends at the Italian Villa in the West End on weekends, just because she could. She was one of the founding ladies of the Gloucester Fisherman's Wives Association and wrote many recipes for them as well as being published in other cookbooks. Family meant the world to her. Being home was a pleasure, but she did enjoy traveling to Florida with her husband to visit relatives and friends. In years past, she had belonged to a few knitting clubs. A treasure to both family and friends, she will be sadly missed. She is survived by her children, Geraldine Murphy and her husband, David of FL, Joseph Favazza of Salem, MA, Roseann Irvin and her husband, William G. Irvin Sr. of Gloucester; grandchildren, Sara-Jane Bub and her husband, David of PA, Chris Leavitt of Gloucester and his fiance GraceTang, Lori Favazza of New York City, Joey Favazza Jr. of Peabody, MA, Jonathan Murphy and his partner, Ryan Stuart of So. Boston, MA; and great grandchildren, Max and Jack Bub of PA; siblings, Tony Ferraro and his wife Libby and Florence Greene, all of Belmont, MA; former daughter-in-law Sheila Favazza of Hamilton, MA and former son-in-law Bruce Leavitt of Danvers, MA, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Anna Gardin, Evelyn Fortuna and Genevieve Lucido. Her visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, on Friday, June 12 from 4-8 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home on Saturday, June 13 at 8:45a.m. followed by a mass celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish, Gloucester at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to: Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box, 50, Memphis, TN 38101 or a charity of one's choice.

Visits to my Aunt Margaret in her kitchen or breezeway made fond memories for many in this city. She was an angel on earth, now she's an angel on heaven. She will be missed. Love, Niece Karen
