Margaret Merritt "Sue" Ghent

Mrs. Margaret "Sue" Merritt Ghent, 72, of Lancaster passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026, at her home. She was born March 8, 1953, in Rock Hill, a daughter of the late Clarence Edgar Merritt and Vernie Goins Merritt.

Mrs. Ghent enjoyed sewing and crafts, gardening and taking care of people. She liked to travel and spend time with family and friends. She was a very devoted and faithful member of Lesslie Church of God - Catawba. Mrs. Ghent taught Sunday School for years and also helped teach children's church.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ghent will be held Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Lesslie Church of God – Catawba with the Rev. James Lockair officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ghent is survived by her husband, Howard A. Ghent, Jr. of Lancaster; a son, Jason H. Ghent (Dianna) of York; a daughter, Sheila Annette Freeman (Buck) of Lancaster; a sister, Rebecca Evans of Fort Lawn; five grandchildren, Jayson Freeman, Jacob Freeman (Amanda), Kyle Ghent (Caroline), Krisanna Ghent and Joshua Freeman; and one great-grandson, Isiah Freeman. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior Merritt, Timothy Merritt, Eddie Merritt and Danny Merritt; and one sister Vanessa Atkins.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2026, at Lesslie Church of God - Catawba.
