Margaret HASLANGER Obituary

HASLANGER, Margaret Isabelle (aka Margaret McEowen Haslanger) 103 years old, passed away at Friendship Village on February 4, 2018. She was born, December 6, 1914 in Greenville, Ohio, the third of five children of Edna Agnes Palmer and Hugh Ellsworth McEowen. She grew up on the family farm in Greenville, where she developed a work ethic that she continued throughout her life. During those years she mastered knowledge of nutrition and practical home economics. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1932 and completed a post-graduate year. She worked with her father at Citizens Bank after completing her formal education. Throughout her life she was known to friends and acquaintances as Isabelle. She married John Frederick Haslanger of Lakeville, Indiana on October 2, 1937 and they relocated to Dayton Ohio. She was a dedicated mother and wife who sacrificed to support the development and education of her children. She demonstrated the importance of family by the high priority she placed on time with her children. She was an active member of the community and Fairview United Methodist Church. She particularly enjoyed and took great pride in her sewing and knitting, frequently making special items for her children and grandchildren. Throughout her life she volunteered in multiple community organizations, particularly the PTA and Girl Scouts. She held a leadership position on the Buckeye Trails Girl Scout Council as well as being a troop leader for her daughters' Girl Scout troops. After her children were grown, she worked in social services at several agencies in children's care and senior citizen outreach. Following her retirement from social services in 1979, she focused on her weaving. She made a number of items including dresses for her daughters and friends. Her last major weaving project was the prayer shawl for her grandson, David Berlin. Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband Fred on June 10, 2014 and her daughters: Dorothy Suzanne Driever, August 8, 1995 and Karen Louise Vaneman, October 29, 2013. She is survived by her two children, Martin Haslanger, and Kathryn Haslanger, her grandchildren Deborah Trosper, Scott Driever, Christopher Vaneman, Andrea Haslanger, Jon Haslanger, and David Berlin, as well as ten great grandchildren. A Memorial service will take place at Fairview United Methodist Church, 828 West Fairview Avenue on March 3 at 2:00pm. Family and friends may gather at the church from 1:00pm until the time of services. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Wegerzyn Gardens Foundation, 1301 East Siebenthaler Ave. Dayton, OH 45414 or at wegerzyngardensfoundation.org/donate.html.

My sadness goes out to the family of Isabelle. She was a wonderful lady. She showed my girls how to weave. Isabelle & I were in the sewing ministry at Fairview church in "Day for Others".
I will miss her. Praying for the family.
