Margaret Mackey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lanier Funeral and Cremation Services on Dec. 14, 2025.
Margaret Elizabeth Mackey, a woman of love and warmth, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the age of 85 in Lakeland, Florida. Born on February 24, 1940, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Margaret's life was a testament to the strength and compassion of her spirit.
Margaret's journey began as the cherished daughter of Lawrence and Mary Pechart, both of whom predeceased her. She grew up surrounded by a bustling household with her siblings Ruthann, Jean, Judy, Brenda, Lawrence, Ken, Charlie, and Michael. While Ruthann, Jean, Judy, Ken, and Charlie have passed before her, her bond with Brenda, Lawrence, and Michael remains a lasting legacy of the Pechart family's closeness.
On a beautiful summer day, June 23, 1956, Margaret's life was forever changed when she married her beloved Ronald Mackey. Their union was not only a partnership but a shared adventure that saw the birth of their children Ronald L. Mackey Jr. (Connie), James A. Mackey (Jennifer), Todd J. Mackey (Cristymer), Fay A. Stenger (Michael), Daniel L. Mackey, and Scott E. Mackey, who sadly preceded her in death. Margaret's role as a farmer's wife was one she embraced with diligence and grace, supporting the family farm and nurturing their children with steadfast love.
Margaret's professional life included a tenure as an assistant manager at Kmart, where she was respected and admired for her work ethic and leadership. Her colleagues would often speak of her ability to make even the most mundane task feel important and her knack for bringing out the best in those around her.
A devout member of the Lake Gibson Church of Christ, Margaret's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. It was her guiding light and provided comfort and community throughout her life. She was a woman who found joy in the simple pleasures of life-playing cards with friends, cooking for her loved ones, and cherishing every moment spent with her family and grandchildren. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where laughter melded with the aromas of her lovingly prepared meals.
Margaret's legacy is carried on through her children, her cherished 12 grandchildren-Christopher, Joseph, Marijane, Emily, Roxanne, Rachel, Brandon, Elecia, Eric, Alexis, Dalton, and Jadyn-and the blessings of several great and great-great-grandchildren. Each one of them carries a spark of Margaret's spirit, her lessons of kindness, and her unending love.
Margaret Mackey was a great wife, a devoted mother, and a loving, kind-hearted soul whose memory will be treasured by all who knew her. Her life was a tapestry woven with the threads of dedication, love, and the joy of everyday moments. As we bid farewell to Margaret, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the countless lives she touched. Her story does not end with her passing but continues in the hearts of her family and friends, who will remember her with love and gratitude for all the days to come.
