Margaret Matthews

6/11/1939 - 8/14/2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Margaret Matthews. She passed

peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on August 14th at age 86, leaving behind a legacy of

love, strength and kindness. Margaret was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother,

Sister, Aunt and Friend to many.

Margaret was born in the village of Penn Yan, New York to her parents Ruth and Rollins Jackson. At age

3, the family relocated to Union Beach, New Jersey where she remained throughout her childhood. It is

here that she met and married her soul mate, Ray Matthews. Ray and Margaret made a home in Union

Beach to raise their family and remained there for 53 years until Rays passing in 2007. After that,

Margaret moved to her daughters' house in Hazlet where she lived until recently when she fought a

brave battle against dementia at Bayside Manor Assisted Living Facility.

Margaret was immensely proud of the home she kept, always making sure it was spotless and

comfortable. Her favorite pastime was decorating every single room from top to bottom for all holidays,

especially Halloween and Christmas. She loved hosting family dinners and barbeques where everyone

would gather. Margaret was the best Grandma and GiGi and was happiest when surrounded by her

children, grandkids and great grandkids. Together, Ray and Margaret threw some epic parties around

the pool and made Christmas special year after year. We are left to treasure all the memories created

over the years.

Margaret loved yard sales, antiques, and shopping. She especially loved music and dancing, and her

home was always filled with the sound of records playing on their jukebox. She went to music shows of

all kinds and after Ray's passing, she traveled to places near and far with her travel buddies and friends

old and new. Everyone Margaret met became a quick friend.

Margaret was a member of the Keyport and Hazlet senior clubs and volunteered for many committees

and activities there. She was a member of St Johns Methodist church and spent time volunteering at

the church food pantry as well as other local organizations. Margaret was always willing to lend a hand.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, sisters, husband Raymond and son Larry. Margaret is

survived by her beloved children, Peggy and Tom Lands, Robin and Anthony Maglione and Randy

Matthews. She is also survived by her 6 treasured grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, as well as

her special children, Chuckie and Barbara, her sister-in-law, Marilyn Turner and many nieces and

nephews and loyal friends.

Our family is forever grateful for the love and care given to Mom by everyone at Bayside Manor and

Homeside Hospice.

Although we will miss her every day and love her forever, we are comforted knowing that Mom has

been reunited in heaven with her beloved Ray and is resting in the sweetest peace in the arms of Jesus.

Services are as follows: In honor of Margaret's wishes, family and friends are invited to a graveside

service on August 18, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Saint Joseph's Mausoleum in Keyport.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Margaret's memory to a local food pantry.
