Margaret Minson, age 96, of Watertown, SD, passed away surrounded by her family, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, in Watertown, South Dakota.
Margaret (Brixey) Minson was born to Frank and Bessie (Nix) Brixey on December 28, 1927, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of what would eventually be eight children. Margaret grew up helping on the farm. She married Bill Minson in Columbus, Kansas, on March 28, 1946. Together they raised three daughters: Sandi Robbins of Florence, SD, Dianna Kingslien of Manhattan, KS, Kathy Lamoreaux of Watertown, SD.
Margaret loved to be outside, working in her amazing gardens and, when Bill neared retirement, helping him on their farm near Hayti, SD. She enjoyed bowling with the ladies, including daughter Sandi, and made the "200 Club". She participated in the HOA Club (Help One Another) of neighborhood farm wives. She sewed beautifully, making most of the clothes for herself and her girls, including the dresses for bridesmaids at their weddings and a little suit for 4-year-old Mike Robbins at Kathy's. Margaret taught herself to cook and specialized in baked goods; family favorites were her coconut cream pies, bran muffins, glazed doughnuts and refrigerator rolls. She loved and served her family well. She struggled in recent years with allowing others to serve her, as she was fiercely independent.
Margaret is survived by two of her daughters Sandi (Jim) Robbins, Kathy (Rick) Lamoreaux, son-in-law Gene Kingslien; eight grandchildren; Laura (Bobby) Rodriguez, Mike (Sue) Robbins, Jennifer Kingslien, Melissa Kingslien Ranson, Cassandra (Dustin) Bray, Natasha (Brett) Love, Victoria Brewer, Ricky Lamoreaux; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Dianna Kingslien, her parents and her 7 siblings.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 1:30-3:00 PM at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Graveside Services will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
