Margaret Mary Mitchell, lovingly known as "Peggy" to her friends and "nana" to her family, passed away peacefully in
Loveland, CO on February 27, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on July 16, 1943, in
Miami, Florida, Peggy's journey through life was one marked by love, kindness, and a profound connection with those around her.
Peggy was the cherished daughter of Mary and Walter Haslett. Tragically, her father passed away when she was just six months old, but her mother, Mary, later married Jesse Conn, who lovingly adopted Peggy and her sister, Vera "Skeeter". Although they have all predeceased her, their memory lived on in Peggy's heart, and she cherished the time she spent with them.
Peggy graduated from Immaculata High School in
Miami, Florida, and pursued some college education before embarking on a new chapter with her marriage to Joseph F. Mitchell. Together, they settled in Massachusetts and welcomed three beautiful girls into the world: Tracy Holsapple (Eric), Toni Mitchell (Greg Tsouprake), and Terri Mitchell (Jeff Hershberger). Her children were her joy, and she dedicated her life to supporting them.
For many years, Peggy devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mom, but in the late 1970s, she returned to the workforce, bringing her warmth and dedication to her roles at Digital Corporation, Fidelity Investments and Thrivent Financial. Her colleagues and clients alike were drawn to her infectious smile and genuine kindness.
Margaret's life was enriched by her deep faith and active participation in her church community. She found joy in singing in the church choir and was known for her beautiful voice. Music and art were her companions, and she spent countless hours drawing, creating crafts, and sharing her passion for these pursuits with friends and family. Her love for long drives in the country and playing cards with friends were simple pleasures that brought immense joy to her life.
Peggy's legacy includes her beloved grandchildren-Ryan (wife Victoria), Aureli/Kaity, Kohlton (wife Devon and great-grandson Luke), Olivia (husband Eliot), Garrett, Jayme, and Emily. She delighted in spending time with them, passing on her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering belief in the power of laughter and love. Her heart was a wellspring of affection, and her grandchildren were blessed to have such an inspiring and nurturing grandmother.
Peggy's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hillcrest Memory Care, Homewell Care, and Bristol Hospice for their compassionate care. Her life was a testament to the belief that laughter is indeed good medicine and that even the seemingly impossible can be achieved with faith and determination.
Peggy leaves behind a world made brighter by her presence. She taught us all that love, kindness, and a generous spirit can change lives for the better. Her legacy is a tapestry of cherished memories, laughter, and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate to know her. A private cremation has been arranged through Viegut Funeral Home and a memorial gathering will determined at a later date. As we say goodbye, we remember her words: "Those things that you think are not possible, will be possible." Rest in peace Peggy, knowing you were dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
