Margaret Nowacki Obituary

Margaret Nowacki
Margaret (Meg) Helen MacKenzie Nowacki of Hamden, CT, died peacefully on December 6, 2025. She was the widow of George W. Nowacki. Born May 25, 1941, in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late William Neal and Edith Hoit MacKenzie. She was predeceased by her son, Neal A. Nowacki, and her sister, Elizabeth K. MacKenzie. Meg earned a B.A. in mathematics from Sweet Briar College and pursued graduate studies at Northwestern University, the University of Michigan, and Southern Connecticut State University. She taught mathematics in public and private schools in Virginia, Michigan, and Connecticut. A devoted community volunteer, she served in numerous PTA roles, three terms as Hamden PTA Council president, and contributed to the Youth Advisory Board, Hamden Drug Task Force, Hamden Police Commission. She served on the Board of Directors at Davenport-Dunbar Senior Housing and Dunbar United Church of Christ. Her service earned her multiple honors, including Hamden Notable, the Connecticut PTA "Spirit of PTA Award," and the Hamden PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. She is survived by her daughter, Katrina A. Nowacki; her son, Christopher M. Nowacki, and his wife, Kristen; three granddaughters; her sister, Mary M. Shaw; her brother, William H. MacKenzie; and many nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered for supporting her grandchildren's activities, her love of the Yankees and UCONN Women's Basketball, and her years at Paradise Country Club. She will be deeply missed by close friends, Mary Marrandino, Esther Kaplan, and Sandy White. The family extends special thanks to the Yale Cardiac-ICU staff.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, December 30, from 4–6 p.m. at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A memorial service at Dunbar United Church of Christ will be held in the spring. I have known Meg for decades. I went to church and community meetings with Meg,, as well as serving together on the Davenport Dunbar Board of Directors. One of the smartest, most knowledgeable people anywhere. I always loved speaking with Meg because I always learned something. Her passing is a huge loss.
