Peggy Ashworth (Margaret Mary Ashworth), age 78, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. She was born on May 10, 1947, in Illinois and spent the majority of her adult life in Durham, North Carolina, a place she proudly called home.
Peggy dedicated 40 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse at Duke, where she was known for her compassion, steady presence, and unwavering commitment to her patients. Her career reflected a life rooted in kindness and service.
Outside of her profession, Peggy found joy in the simple and meaningful things. She was an avid reader who could always be found with a good book close by. She had a special talent for creating beautiful, thoughtful handmade cards that she lovingly shared with friends. Peggy was also known for her dry sense of humor, which brought quiet laughter and comfort to those who knew her well. Above all, she was a devoted and loving cat mom to her beloved companion, Max, who brought her immense comfort and happiness.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Ashworth, and her mother, Jane Ashworth. She is lovingly remembered by her cherished cat, Max, and by those whose lives she touched through her kindness, creativity, and gentle spirit.
Peggy will be remembered for her warmth, her dedication to others, and the quiet, thoughtful ways she made the world a little brighter.
