Margaret Qualmann Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Clawson on Jan. 18, 2025.
Margaret Anne Qualmann, (nee Fallon), passed away at the remarkable age of 104. She was born on July 25th, 1920, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Knape) Fallon in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Margaret and her husband, Carl were married on August 22nd, 1953, and raised four children in Troy, Michigan, sons Gary and Jeff, daughters, Lori and Jill. Both she and her husband Carl were teachers by profession, working for several local school districts. Marge's passion for art allowed her to not only create wonderful watercolor paintings herself, but also share that passion with the students she taught. She was a lifelong supporter of fellow artists, galleries and art fairs, and had many examples of their art and her own gracing the walls of her home.
Margaret and her husband, Carl became frequent travelers after they retired, taking many trips to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and around the U.S. Growing up in West Michigan, as a child, Margaret spent her school year in Grand Rapids, with summers spent near Lake Michigan. She was sure to also instill a love of Lake Michigan in all their children as they grew up, as that was a frequent spot for wonderful memory-filled family summer vacations. Marge and Carl eventually purchased a summer home in Grand Haven, where she could continue to share her love of the beach with friends and family. She remained a devoted "beach girl" all her life.
At 104, Marge's long life allowed her to possess a great deal of experience and knowledge, often sprinkled with (real) tales of biking around Europe as a young woman post-WWII, spending time in Mexico in an artist colony during summer breaks from teaching school and catching fish with her grandmother on Spring Lake. Not to be forgotten was her uncanny knack for knowing exactly how to remove just about any stain from clothing. We always knew where to go for laundry advice from the "Almighty Stain Remover".
A voracious reader, she was known to read 3-4 newspapers a day along with her morning coffee. Her other passions were flowers and gardening, helping others and believing in a daily dose of sunshine and an occasional good vodka & tonic.
Marge was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl Qualmann, her sister Bernie (Phil) Kregor, brother John (Pat) Fallon, and son, Gary Qualmann. Margaret is survived by her other three children, Lori (Phil) Brown, Jeff Qualmann, and Jill (Gary) Peck along with her son Gary's wife Suzanne and Marge's grandkids; Alexandra (John), Ryan, Cameron and Emma, along with many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. We will miss her and remember her always. Many heartfelt thanks to the great caregivers at Serene Gardens, along with neighbor, Kathy Mills and friend, Sandy Enerson who provided wonderful care and friendship over the years.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 21st, at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd., Clawson, from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 22nd, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4580 N. Adams Rd., Troy, at 11am with a luncheon to follow.
