With the same quiet strength that marked her life, Margaret Ann (Ryan) Wallowicz, 87, of Seven Fields, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family and the love she so freely gave.
Born on June 15, 1938, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Margaret Ann carried her hometown with her wherever life took her. Though she lived elsewhere for most of her adult life, Brownsville was always a part of her. It remained a place of family and laughter, and of the porch conversations she so loved when she returned home.
On June 18, 1960, Margaret Ann married David "Sonny" Wallowicz, and together they shared 65 years of marriage marked by devotion, commitment, and unwavering partnership. She was the big heart of a large and loving family: her children Diane (Dean) Balouris, David Wallowicz, and Thomas (Tracy) Wallowicz; her grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as Mima, Anthony (Alexandra) Balouris, Elaina (Brian) Tabb, Demetrios Balouris, Daniel Wallowicz, Jonathan Wallowicz, and Maggie Wallowicz; and her cherished great-grandchildren Tino Balouris, Kalliopi Tabb, and Kyra Tabb.
She was preceded in death by her deeply loved parents, Thomas and Ellen Ryan, and four very special siblings, Tom Ryan, Francis Ryan, Ann "Sis" Ballant, and Jane Famularo, as well as brothers-in-law Mike Ballant and Jim Famularo, and sisters-in-law Norma Ryan and Beverly Ryan. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and George Malek, and by many nieces and nephews to whom "Aunt Mag" was a joyful, grounding, and important presence. Both the family she was born into and the one she built with Dave were the center of her world.
Margaret Ann's life was defined by care. This included care for her family, her friends, and her patients. A proud nurse, she spent most of her long and meaningful career at St. Francis Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where she brought compassion, strength, and a warm smile to every shift as a nursing supervisor. Her Catholic faith guided her daily life; she was always ready to light a candle, say a prayer, and hold space for someone walking through a difficult time.
She was endlessly proud of her Irish heritage, and her favorite color - always green - seemed to suit her perfectly. She loved cheering for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins, baking for family gatherings (her apple pies and gingersnaps are legendary), and losing herself in a good book. Her book club was a treasured community and the women she shared it with became dear friends.
Margaret Ann valued her lifelong friendship with Mary Catherine McKee and the many years she spent raising a family alongside her dear friend Ann Riley. She loved Ann's children, John Riley and Leslie Goff, and their families as her own. She was also blessed by the love and kindness of her dear neighbors, Janet Eshenbaugh and Janine O'Shea, whose warmth and support brightened every day they shared. In addition, she deeply valued her bond with Alicia and Victoria McGinnis and their sons, Manus and Lochlan, who affectionately called her "Madgie." The families of her brothers-in-law, Joe Coleman and the late Ron Coleman, were also very special to her.

Whether welcoming someone to her kitchen table with a cup of coffee or offering the kind of advice that made everything feel a little lighter, Margaret Ann had a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and at home. Her strength was quiet but certain, her love constant and unconditional. She lived her faith through kindness and humility and she gave of herself wholly and freely. Her life was full and wonderfully lived. And though she never quite believed it, Margaret Ann was exquisitely beautiful in all the ways that mattered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Kilian Church, 7076 Franklin Road, Cranberry Township, PA, on Monday at Noon. Family and friends will be received at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry Township on Sunday from 2-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret Ann's memory to the American Cancer Society.
