It is with heavy hearts but deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of
Margarita Franco Niño, age 75, who went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 29,
2025, surrounded by her loving family.
For 25 years, Margarita dedicated herself to teaching Special Education in the BISD and Los Fresnos school districts, where her compassion and patience made her a beloved mentor, counselor, parent, and role model to countless students. She had a rare ability to see each child's unique gifts and to nurture them with kindness and understanding. Her classroom was a place of laughter, learning, a safe haven and love-proof that, in her heart, she truly believed that "all you need is love." The family asks that people bring school supplies or backpacks to the funeral home to make a donation in her memory to Down By The Border, a local non-profit organization which advocates for individuals with special needs in the local, state and federal levels.
Outside the classroom, Margarita filled her days with the music and joy that reflected her soul. A lifelong Beatles fan, she found comfort and inspiration in their songs. Whether she was humming along to "Here Comes the Sun" on a bright morning or dancing in her kitchen to "Twist and Shout," music was the rhythm of her life.
Margarita was a gifted writer and poet, pouring her heart into words and melodies that spoke of love, faith, and beauty. Her poems and songs captured the tenderness of everyday life-moments that now serve as cherished reminders of her gentle spirit. Those who knew Margarita will remember her as a woman of deep faith, a devoted teacher, and a joyful soul who made every person feel seen and loved. She reminded her family often that "in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make," and she truly lived by those words.
Margarita is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Fernando Niño, and her beloved son; Jesus Antonio Niño. Margarita is survived by her daughters, Elisa Daniella (Julio Rodriguez), Marisa (Louis Leal), 1 granddaughter; Madison Faith, and several nieces and nephews; all who will carry forward her legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering belief in God's goodness.
Visitation hours are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6th, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will start at 5:00 p.m., and the Celebration of Life service will follow at 6:00 p.m. On Friday, November 7th, the chapel opens at 10:00 a.m. A chapel service will begin at 12:00 p.m., with interment to follow to Buena Vista Burial Park at 1:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Julio Rodriguez, Louis B. Leal, Cesar Mendoza, Michael Barron, Ernesto Arreola, and Paul Leal. Honorary pallbearers: Ruben Contreras, Jesus Contreras, and Jake Ryan Flores.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Solara Acute Specialty Hospital, and Fox Hollow Post Acute, who demonstrated their patience and unwavering kindness and care towards our mother. A very special thank you to Cynthia Rosales who cared not only for our father, our brother but also our mother.
As we say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing that Margarita has found her peace-her "long and winding road" has led her home. Though she has gone on to be with the Lord, her love remains, shining on in the hearts of all who knew her.
