Margaret Ann Coulter, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was born on September 10, 1949, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Richard and Katherine “Kay” (Kuntz) Coulter. As the third of five children, she filled her early years in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, where she blossomed academically, graduating as valedictorian from Sacred Heart School in 1967.
Marge’s journey through life embraced love and family. She married David Neil, welcoming two cherished children, David and Jennifer. Her path later brought her to James Erickson, and on December 23, 1974, they began a beautiful partnership in Moorhead, raising four wonderful children: David, Jennifer, James, and Benjamin.
As her youngest child entered school, Marge found her calling in the kitchen. She poured her heart into her work as a cook, first at Moorhead Manor, then at Dakota Hospital, and ultimately at the VA Hospital in Fargo, where she dedicated herself until her retirement in 2012. Marge's cooking was not just a profession; it was an extension of her love, celebrated with the community—especially during the holidays when her delightful platters became a cherished tradition among family and neighbors.
Books were a cornerstone of Marge's life; her passion for reading permeated her family, as she read to her children every night, nurturing in them the same love for literature. Marge was also known for her quick wit and knowledge, often competing with her husband at 5 o'clock over Jeopardy. Her faith was a guiding light in her life; she prayed the rosary daily and served her church community with devotion through St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, working with the guild and the Christian Mothers.
Marge leaves behind her cherished children: Jenni (Dean Alexander) of Ada, MN, James Erickson of Menomonie, WI, and Ben Erickson of Moorhead, MN. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Kaleigh (Matt Klevgaard) Lee, Katie Dunkin, and Jimmy Dunkin, along with great-grandchildren Mariah, Tyler Lee, and Kristopher Klevgaard. Her siblings Judi (Bob) Schmidt, Rick (Cathy) Coulter, and Mary (Ron) Dinga, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, hold her memory close to their hearts.
She now joins in eternal rest her beloved husband James Erickson, her sons David and Danny Neil, grandson Timmy Lee, her parents Richard and Kay Coulter, and her brother Don Coulter.
The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley especially Corey and Crystal for the care they gave Marge during her final days. Marge’s spirit, warmth, and love for those around her will forever illuminate our memories.
