Margie Anne Slaughter Long passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born in Beaumont, Texas on April 14, 1935, and was raised with her brothers Robert and Ted Slaughter. Her parents, Owen Gale and Essel Belle Slaughter, moved the family to Vidor, Texas, where the kids continued their education. Margie was a natural athlete and went to State with the girls' basketball team.

After graduating high school in 1953, Margie married her longtime boyfriend, Aaron (Buddy) Long, and worked while helping him attend college and vet school at Sam Houston and Texas A&M University. After graduation Buddy joined the Army and they had three children- Mark, Mitchell and Mindy. They moved to Winnie, Texas in 1964 and opened a veterinary practice working together over the next thirty-five years before retiring to Junction, Texas. During their time in Winnie, Margie was active in the First Baptist Church of Winnie, the Women's Civic Club and attended Lamar University.

In 1976, Margie and Buddy purchased the property that they eventually retired to near Junction, Texas. In 2000, they made it their permanent home where they were active in the Master Naturalist Club, Friends of the Library, Meals on Wheels and the First Baptist Church of Junction. When Buddy passed away in 2005, Margie continued to serve the Junction community. She loved watching hummingbirds and deer, beautiful sunrises, and all the colorful flowers from her front porch swing in Junction. All of the grandchildren were sung songs on that swing, and she loved every minute. Her friend group called themselves the "YaYa Sisterhood of Segovia" and were her extended family. If you showed up at 6:00 in the morning or 11:00 at night, there would be something on the stove for you, or maybe a jar of mayhaw jelly because she loved nothing more than visitors. Margie had a strong dedication to her Christian faith and was ready to enter Heaven! She belonged to a very dedicated interfaith Bible study group in the Junction area, and with her lifelong love of music joined the handbell choir at First Baptist.

To celebrate her 90th birthday, a party was held at Pipkin Ranch outside of Winnie where 178 friends, family, classmates and customers came to celebrate with her. She was able to see people she hadn't seen in many years, and several attending were 90 years plus as well. The highlight of a life well-lived was evident with so many well-wishes and fun stories. Unfortunately, a bad fall and health problems took a toll. After a short time in the hospital and rehab, Margie was called home to Jesus Christ and reunited with her husband.

Margie is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Herman (Buddy) Long, Jr.; her parents, Owen and Essel Slaughter; her brothers, Robert and Ted Slaughter; her mother-in-law, Juanita Long; brother-in-law Bill Johnson; sisters-in-law, Margie Johnson and Jean Slaughter.

She leaves behind sons and their wives, Mark and Jamie Long; and Mitchell and Melissa Long; and daughter, Mindy and her husband Tony Casper; grandchildren, Thomas and Ashlynn Long; Taylor and Daryin Long; Ryo and Sadie Atha; Sydney Long; Lance Long; David and Mallory Casper; Michael and Laura Norman; and Daniel Casper; great-grandchildren, Claire, Piper, Blake and Henley Long, McKennon and Teagan Long, Arya McInnis-Long, Natalie Lisenby, Ophelia Atha and Reagan Norman; as well as her brother and sister-in-law, David and Brenda Long; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Slaughter.
