Margie Helen Sellitti, nee Campbell, 96, quietly left this earth on January 29, 2025. A devoted Mom and cherished Grandmother, her absence leaves a void in the lives of all who loved her.On June 20, 1928, Emma & Isaac James Campbell of Bibb County, Macon Georgia gave birth to an adorable little girl named Margie Helen. Margie had 4 siblings. Her sister, Tina, who was the eldest and 3 brothers, Thomas William, Sam and Junior. Margie was raised by wonderful parents and was surrounded by Old-World Southern charm and was very loved. When Margie was a young woman, our country went to war. She played her part by working at the military base to help support our brave soldiers. Her cousin Harry was temporary stationed at Robins AFB in Georgia and before leaving to go fight for our country, he asked her if she would go on a date with one of his Italian friends who lived in Brooklyn. To her cousin’s surprise, she said “Yes”. John and Margie dated and the romance bloomed. While John was touring his duties in the Pacific, they corresponded often. As the story goes, he proposed in one of his letters and, of course, Margie happily accepted! When World War II was over, John returned to Brooklyn for a short time before returning to Georgia to see his future bride. On January 12, 1946 John and Margie were married in Macon, Georgia. The newlyweds returned to Brooklyn to start their new lives. John’s family had a successful Italian Butcher Store which John ran for many years. Margie was welcomed with open arms by her new “Italian family”. It began a new chapter in her life and she adjusted quite well to living in Brooklyn. Margie’s family visited her often and embraced the loving family she was now surrounded by. In time, their family grew and had 5 children. The children were surrounded by much love and were raise in both Italian and Southern traditions. Margie’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her 5 children, Anna, Susan, Joan, Genevieve and John; her 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Each of whom was a great source of pride and joy to her.The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shown kindness and support during this difficult time.
