Margot Ann Donnell

Margot Ann Whicker Donnell, age 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Summerfield, NC, surrounded by family and loved ones after a long and courageous journey with breast cancer.

Born in Greensboro, NC, Margot formed friendships as a child that lasted her entire life. She was ready with a gentle smile and a kind word - laced with her spunky sense of humor - for all who knew her.

Margot attended Our Lady of Grace, Morehead Elementary, Kiser Junior High School, Grimsley Sr. High, and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1979 with a business degree.

She returned to Guilford County, where she and her sister Cinda owned and operated Purgason's Western Wear. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life, William Donnell of Oak Ridge, NC. They literally built a home together in Summerfield, where they raised their son Benjamin. Her "Happy Places" were on the beach and in her vegetable garden. A wide variety of flowers and plants were her passion as well. Her grandson Noah was the "light of her life".

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 40 years, William Donnell of Summerfield, NC; her son Benjamin Donnell (Marissa) and grandson Noah; brothers Les Whicker (Beth), Vance Whicker, and sister Cinda Whicker; and many Cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Mary Elizabeth Whicker, and her sister-in-law, Lisa Whicker.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly asked to be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, charities that were near and dear to Margot.
