Cherished her family, remembered for her generous heart
Maria Teresa Becker, age 93, of Franklin Twp., NJ, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, NJ.
She was born on January 27, 1931 in Gurahumora, Romania.
She was the daughter of the late Johann and Maria Pilsner Lang of Germany.
While working as a translator for the US Army in Linz, Austria, she met the love of her life, Edward Joseph Becker. In 1953, the couple married and found their first home in Quakertown, NJ before establishing a permanent residence in Pittstown, NJ.
She worked as a Bookkeeper for Argo in Phillipsburg, NJ for many years, as well as for Ricklyn Company in Washington, NJ, from which she retired.
Memberships include Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Annandale, NJ where she was a past member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Church Choir. Maria also was a member of the Bukovina Society in Ellis, Kansas and enjoyed traveling there for reunions.
Maria was a master gardener in her own right spending many laborious hours amongst the blooms that she dearly enjoyed. She was always eager to share her knowledge of and love for gardening. Her other creative crafts included sewing, crocheting and baking. She was a wonderful cook and, in earlier days, an accomplished accordionist.
Maria spent countless hours in genealogy research. In 1996, she co-authored a book entitled 'The Bori Story', a project that she was especially proud of.
She will always be remembered for her generous and faithful heart. She offered continuing care and assistance to her elderly neighbors and was an exemplary model of love and service.
Maria had a life full of travel, wonderful memories, and love for her friends and family. She was an exceptionally loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored and cherished her family here as well as those in Austria and Germany.
Survivors include her two children; Eric Becker and his wife Susan of Annandale, NJ and Ingrid Hansen of Pittstown, NJ. Five grandchildren; Amanda Lapczynski and her husband Michael, Jeffrey Becker, Carolyn Gallagher and her husband Brian, John Morrison and Kate Morrison. Five great-grandchildren; Jackson, Levi, Everett, Beauden and Wrenley. One sibling; Johann.
Maria is predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Joseph Becker who passed away in 2018 after 64 years of marriage. She is also predeceased by five siblings; Olga, Arthur, Bruno and Leo.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 9am – 10:30am at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral Mass will follow at 11am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ. Interment at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Annandale, NJ.
