We celebrate the life of Maria Luisa Burgos Cruz, an uplifting figure who warmed the hearts of many. Maria was born on September 19, 1930, in Cidra, Puerto Rico and spent her life spreading love and joy in every place she resided, from Puerto Rico to Connecticut and Massachusetts. Maria was a spirited woman who loved life and shared that zest with everyone she met. Her passion was evident in everything she did, especially her unyielding dedication to her family, friends, and community.
Maria was a resilient woman known for her loving and funny nature. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: walking, recycling, gardening, cooking, and traveling. She had a special place in her heart for music and found immense joy in spending time with her family, particularly her cherished grandchildren. Maria's Catholic faith was the foundation of her generous spirit. As reflected in the verse from Matthew 25:40, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me," Maria was passionately involved in helping the homeless and less fortunate. Her renowned generosity extended beyond her family to the broader community and was often informally recognized.
Maria's life motto, "No Honey, No Money," was a testament to her lively spirit and her love to uplifting others. Maria is survived by her children Juan Burgos, Camelia Martinez, Pedro Burgos, Ana Maria Amaro, Juan Señeriz, Luis Señeriz, Luis Garcia, Luz Torres, Belsie Burgos, 29 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, her siblings Manuel Burgos, William Burgos, and Maria D. Burgos. She was preceded in death by her beloved children Jose Torres, Carmen Torres, Yosalina Rodriguez, her parents Pedro Burgos, Guillermina Cruz, and her sister Ana M. Acevedo.
Maria's viewing will be held at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by her burial at Oak Grove Cemetery of Springfield Inc., 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, at 11:30 AM.
We invite you to leave your memories of Maria and upload photos to the memorial page. In this way, we can all celebrate the wonderful life of Maria Luisa Burgos Cruz, a woman of formidable strength, boundless love, and unwavering faith. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, and her love will forever be in our hearts. Maria would say "I love you, I love you, I love you" que Dios te bendiga.
