Maria Fernandez (nee Monje), 91, of Maywood, passed away on Sunday, September 14. 2025 to join the Lord. She was an entrepreneur and owned her own beauty salon in Hoboken, NJ before retiring. Maria was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 70 years, Jorge. Loving mother to Aurora Marlen and Dulce Maria and her husband Jean-Michel. Treasured grandmother/abuela to Julian and his wife Lauren, Andre and his wife Jennifer, Adam and his partner Jayla, Daniel and his wife Kara and Amanda. She is also survived by her loving great-grandchildren Milo and Noelle Maria.

Maria was born in Havana, Cuba in 1934 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1969. She was devoted to her family, loved spending time with them and especially enjoyed sharing her traditions around the holidays. She adored seeing her grandchildren grow and was very proud of them all. She was especially happy to see her two new great-grandchildren and becoming a new great- grandmother ("big abuela") this year. She was a woman of great faith and loved family, life and always looked to the future with hope. She touched us all, and we are all blessed to have had her in our lives. Maria will be dearly remembered and missed.

The family will hold a Funeral Mass on Friday September 19, 2025 at 12 noon at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood, NJ, with internment to follow at Garden of Memories in Washington Township NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maria's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
