Maria Alexandra Figueiredo, 86 of Miami, FL passed away on Saturday November 8th, 2025. Maria was born in Sao Joao de Areias, Portugal. As a teenager, Maria and her family relocated to Caracas, Venezuela where she met her husband, Fernando, and married. They came to the United States in 1956 and settled in Elizabeth, NJ where they raised their two boys before moving to Miami over 40 years ago. Maria worked as a seamstress for Singer and others in Elizabeth and was a dedicated housewife, mother, and home maker. She was a past member of the Portuguese-American Social Clubs in both Elizabeth, NJ and in Fort Lauderdale, FL and would travel to Portugal from time to time.
Maria was predeceased by her parents Raul and Bebiana Martinho, her husband of 61 years Fernando Figueiredo, brother Luis Martinho and his wife Otilia, mother-in-law Olinda Santos and her husband Daniel, and her daughter-in-law Maria R. Figueiredo.
She is survived by her loving sons Daniel M. Figueiredo of Little Egg Harbor, NJ and Hubert Figueiredo of Palmdale, CA, grandchildren Michelle McDonald and husband Joseph, Christine Lewis and husband Jason, and Daniel R. Figueiredo, great-grandchild Konnor Lewis, nieces Linda Ferreira and husband Helder, Maria Angela Rodrigues and husband Alfredo, Maria Vitoria Domingues and husband Antonio, Maria Fatima Carrega, and nephew Carlos Martinho.
Visitation will be held on Thursday November 13th, 2025 from 5-9 pm and again on Friday November 14th, 2025 from 9:30-10:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd. Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday November 14th, 2025 at 11am at St. Theresa’s R.C. Church 450 Radio Rd. Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. Entombment will follow in Fred Hunter’s Cemetery in Hollywood, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria’s name to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Hospital.
