Maria Gionfriddo

Maria Gionfriddo, 76, of West Hartford, passed away on September 8, 2024, under hospice care
at West Hartford Health & Rehabilitation Center (WHHRC). Maria was born in Hartford on
September 29, 1947, the youngest of Paul and Melina Gionfriddo's three children.
Due to an acute illness as a young child, Maria remained under the care of her parents and then
her WHHRC community throughout her life. She embraced every opportunity that came her
way, especially enjoying the company of friends and family, whom she regularly-and with
unfailing good cheer and a sly smile-bested in various card games.
Later in life, those same talents extended to WHHRC, where her champion-level skills in bingo,
cardo, and all other games were matched by her role as the community's longest-running official
greeter and most enthusiastic ambassador. She also took up art, creating beautiful oil and
acrylic paintings of outdoor scenes.
Maria is survived by her sister Ninette, nephew David, his wife Sarah, and their children Andrew
and Charlotte Cunningham. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother-in-law Bill
Cunningham, and her older brother Santo, who passed away in early childhood.
Burial services will be private. Donations in Maria's memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society
