Maria M. Guarente, 67, of Hurley, NY, passed away on Tuesday April 30, 2024. She was born on February 3, 1957 in Kingston, NY, and was the daughter of Rosetta Marmo and the late John Marmo.
She graduated from Kingston High School in 1975, and University at Albany in 1979. She worked for many years at IBM as a computer programmer and designer, and obtained her Master of Science in Teaching in Early Childhood Education at SUNY New Paltz. She was a member of Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston, NY, and was a Eucharistic Minister there. She experienced great joy taking classes at the Anne Heard School of Ballet in Kingston, NY, and was a member of the board of directors for many years. She enjoyed photography, art, reading, crossword puzzles and traveling.
Maria was adored by her loving husband and daughter, Dr. Augustus Guarente and Dr. Juliana Guarente. Maria is survived by her husband, her daughter, her mother, brother John Marmo and sister Lisa Whitcomb, brothers- and sisters-in law, and nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Kingston, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Monday May 6, 2024 at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 242 Wall Street, Kingston, NY 12401. A private graveside service will follow. For those who wish, contributions in Maria’s memory may be made to OneGoal, an organization Maria was involved in that works to provide equal access to a college education.
