Maria Mercedes Lopez, The beloved wife to Juan Lopez Luevanos and devoted mother to Alberto, Martha, Efrain, John, Saul, Adrain, Jesus and Maria, passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2025 Surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments,
Maria Mercedes was born in Rancho Nuevo de Jalisco Mexico in 1951 to Tereso and Josefina Ramirez. From a very young age Maria Mercedes worked with her father side by side working on his land. It was in her teenage years when she met the love of her life, Juan Lopez. At first they only courted for about a month before Maria Mercedes was given a choice. At that moment, Maria chose Juan and they married in Teocaltiche Jalisco Mexico in 1968. Together, they had their first-born son Juan Alberto in 1969 who tragically 11 months later passed away in her arms. Due to these circumstances, Maria and Juan decided that they would leave this world to provide a better life for them and their future children. They then decided to migrate to the states, landing in the city of Los Angeles,CA in 1973. A few years later, they decided to move to El Refugio Beach,CA in 1978. While living there, Maria loved working in hospitality for Ms.Brown that owned Circle Bar B. Due to another misfortune in 1987, the Lopez family was compelled to move to Goleta,CA. where Maria Mercedes resided for 37 years and called it her home until passing.
Maria was special and loved by everyone. She made her closest friends at church community events, as well as places of work. Maria Mercedes was employed by Francisco Torres and eventually ended up being employed at UCSB until she retired. Maria Mercedes loved nature. She loved red roses, and her favorite color was blue. Maria loved being outside especially in her garden another thing Maria enjoyed was knitting. Maria's loved ones will never forget how much she enjoyed feeding everyone as she made sure no one left her home feeling hungry. Her devotion was to her children; her grandchildren and she was blessed with Alessandro, her great grand-child.
Maria Mercedes was strong in her faith; she attended mass regularly and loved going to the Guadalupanos prayer group. Maria served the community with the love of God. She always made sure that her home was always open to everyone and greeted others with open arms.
Ama Meche, will be greatly missed by her children. Especially her grandchildren; Joseph, Samantha, Diego, Alexandra, Samuel, Sofia, Carlos, Stephen, Sage, Magdalena, Lucas, Ezhra, Evangelina, Manuel, Titus, Luna, Lucía, Mateo,
Maria Mercedes Lopez funeral service will be held at St Raphael Church on November 8, 2025 at 10:00 am.
The rosary will also held at 7:00 pm on November 7, 2025 at St Raphael Church located at 5444 Hollister Avenue, Goleta, CA 93117
