Maria D. Olalde, 95, passed away at her home in Weslaco on Thursday, February 11th, 2021. Maria was born on May 1st, 1925, to Ignacio Garza and Severa Ramirez Garza in Mexico. Maria met her husband, Rafael Olalde, when she was only fourteen. They married when she was fifteen and were married for sixty years until Rafael's passing.

Rafael worked long hours to allow Maria to stay home and care for their eight children. Maria was a wonderful homemaker and caregiver. She was very loving, caring, and kind. Maria was also a hard worker and earned the respect of her community and family. Maria was admired and led by example.

Maria was a lot of fun. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Bingo. She also loved working in her garden and spending time with her family. Maria took many trips to Mexico to spend time with her siblings and extended family.

Maria was a devout Catholic and was a woman of tremendous faith.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio and Severa Garza, her loving husband of sixty years, Rafael Olalde Sr., her son Cristobal Olalde, and daughter Maria Green.

She is survived by her children, Rafael Olalde Jr. of Weslaco, Florentino Olalde (Dolores) of Weslaco, Susana Arguellez (Catarino+) of Brownfield, TX, Mina Valdez (Rito+) of Progreso, Jose Olalde of San Antonio, TX, and Socorro Olalde of Weslaco, brother, Heriberto Garza (Amalia+), Irene Garza, San Juana Garza, 24 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 47 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 14th, 1-9 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary at 2 pm. Graveside service will be Monday, February 15th, 3 pm, at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
