Maria Oppenheimer of Manhasset, NY, passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2025. She was born in Germany in 1932 and immigrated to the United States in 1960. She met and married Ernest Oppenheimer in New York City in 1961, later moving to Manhasset in 1963, where she and Ernest raised two children, Nicky and Peter. Although the world she grew up in was very different than Manhasset, she soon formed a circle of friends that grew throughout her life. She was pragmatic, impulsive, adventuresome, and candid to a fault. She was a passionate birdwatcher, had a green thumb, and loved to be outdoors. She worked as an X-ray technician for many years, earned her bachelor's degree at SUNY Empire State in her 50s, and retired at 73. She was widowed at 61 and eventually met Sidney, who became her partner for more than 20 years before he passed in 2023. She is survived by her children, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, and two nieces.
