SOUTHBRIDGE - Maria Ortiz, 68, of Cross Street, Southbridge, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 30, following a brief illness. Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, Maria made Southbridge her home for many years, where she was cherished by family and friends alike.

She shared a loving marriage of 50 years with her husband, Angel Ortiz, and is survived by him as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Maria was a devoted homemaker who warmly welcomed family and friends into her home, especially during her annual Christmas Eve gatherings, where she delighted in preparing homemade meals.

Known for her caring nature, Maria often took joy in babysitting her nephews, nieces, and their children, nurturing the bonds across generations. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and occasional trips to the casinos, embracing life’s simple pleasures.

Maria’s warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Maria’s life will be held at 11:00 AM at St. John Paul II Church (formerly St. Mary’s) on Hamilton Street, Southbridge, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge.
