Maria Papaioannou

Maria Papaioannou, 92 of Caldwell, N.J. has passed away on January 2, 2026.
Born and raised in Akapnou, Cyprus, she immigrated to Jersey City, N.J. in 1960. She worked in a garment factory while raising her two children. She later moved to Caldwell, N.J., where she spent the remaining 36 years of her life. Maria helped build a home filled with love and purpose. She enjoyed gardening and hand making bread for St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton, N.J. Above all, she adored her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to her.
Predeceased by her husband Stelios Papaioannou, parents Victor and Theodora Christophi and siblings Nicholas Victor, Eleni Akapnitis, Costa Victor, and Christofi Victor. Maria is survived by her loving children Nicos Papaioannou and Joanna Foote; cherished grandchildren Victor Foote and wife Allorah, Adam Foote, and Felicia Foote.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 2 - 6 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove. A funeral service is planned for Thursday, January 8, 2026, 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 818 Valley Road Clifton, N.J. 07013. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, N.J.
