Our Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Maria Madrid Rodriguez, 94, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Avir at Pecos a Skilled Nursing Facility.
Our beloved Maria M. Rodriguez was born in Greely, Colorado on September 12, 1931 to Jose de la Luz and Jesus (Chuy) Madrid. She was raised in Ojinaga, Mexico along with her 11 siblings. On September 7, 1948 she married Roberto Leyva Rodriguez and together raised 5 children. They made Pecos their home.
Maria was known to her family as Wela, Tia Maria, and Mom. She had an infectious laugh, a stern look, she loved and lived for her family especially her grandchildren, she loved gardening and tending to her plants, she enjoyed animals particularly birds and dogs, you would often catch her whistling with the birds early in the morning. She was an avid Bingo player, and you often found her in the kitchen she loved to cook for her family, the table was never empty and she made the best biscochos.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband Roberto L. Rodriguez, her parents Jose de la Luz and Jesus Madrid, her son Hector M. Rodriguez, her daughter Maria Elena Rodriguez, her sister Eufemia Ramos, her brothers Raymundo, Alfredo, Leandro, Hipolito, Roque, and Arturo Madrid.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Maria R. Martinez of Pecos, Manuela Rodriguez of Presidio, and her son Heriberto (Gloria) Rodriguez of Pecos. 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers Carlos (Hortencia) Madrid of Ojinaga, Andres (Tomasa) Madrid of Pecos, Mercedes (Graciela) Madrid of Ojinaga, Gonzalo "Chale" Madrid of Pecos and many numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Maria will be held on Wednesday, June 18th, from 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Rosary following at 7:00pm at Pecos Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 19th at 10:00am, at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Pecos, Texas.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
